# Coordinate parts of an occasion

Process metaphysics ·

## Why it looked like it would break the theory

Whitehead's coordinate divisions are potential rather than actual in his technical sense. If only actual, independently existing components count as parts, the part pole appears to fail.

## Why it failed

**The counterexample failed** because DSRP places no such restriction on what may occupy the part role. Coordinate aspects contribute to the occasion's organization and therefore function as parts, whether or not they are independently actualized objects.
