# Entangled pair: is there a whole at all?

## Why it looked like it would break the theory

Entanglement seemed to present a whole with no genuine parts: neither particle has a complete state of its own, while the pair does.

## Why it failed

**The counterexample failed** because dependence is not absence. The two particles remain parts of the pair; they simply cannot be fully specified independently of the whole. DSRP permits nonseparable parts and predicts this part–whole dependence.
