# Pando's genetic mosaicism

Biology & ecology ·

## Why it looked like it would break the theory

Pando contains substantial genetic mosaicism rather than perfect genetic uniformity. If a whole requires one clean genetic identity, the clone appears to fragment into many identities.

## Why it failed

**The counterexample failed** because a whole need not have homogeneous parts. Mosaicism complicates one criterion of classification but does not remove the clone's organization, relationships, or all legitimate ways of identifying the whole.
