## Why it looked like it would break the theory

Emergence is a change in organization, and change seems to presuppose time. If the passage of time is irreducible, a fifth dynamic sits inside the emergence law.

## Why it failed

**The counterexample failed** because time is built from patterns already in the calculus. Every change is a difference, which is a Distinction between identity and other, though not every difference is a change. Order comes from the Relationship between action and reaction. Time needs no primitive of its own.
