### What they set out to do (purpose)

This article describes how teachers in the Ithaca City School District continued implementing DSRP-based teaching and metacognitive practices after district budget cuts reduced formal professional development and classroom expansion. Teachers at DeWitt Middle School organized their own training, continued using mapping and ThinkBlocks, and adapted the approach using the resources available to them.

### What they found (results)

Teachers reported that DSRP remained useful even without the original level of institutional funding and support. One teacher noted that students “didn’t seem to struggle as much with identifying the genres” after using mapping and ThinkBlocks. The article also describes a shift toward teacher-led implementation, with educators organizing workshops, mini-trainings, and continued classroom use of DSRP practices despite financial constraints.
