# Popularity Without Proof

A Systematic Empirical Review of Systems Thinking Frameworks

Cabrera D, Silberman D, Cabrera L, Journal of Systems Thinking, 2025

## Abstract

A systematic empirical review of the most cited systems-thinking frameworks, assessing the evidence behind each against stated inclusion criteria.

## What they found (results)

The most popular frameworks tend to carry the weakest empirical support; citation follows citation rather than data.

## Response

Predicted in 2006 and confirmed in 2025, a gap of nineteen years: if systems thinking is alignment rather than a method, frameworks treating it as a method should turn out under-evidenced. The review was written by Cabrera, in a field where Cabrera competes. Its inclusion criteria and per-framework evidence are published and can be checked.
