The Universal & Atomic Elements of Organization
A falsifiable scientific theory proposing that the same irreducible structures organize both thought and reality — from the quantum to the social scale.
O-Theory proposes that four irreducible structures — Distinctions, Systems, Relationships and Perspectives (DSRP) — form the universal grammar of organization. Rather than being merely useful ways of thinking, these structures are hypothesized to be the atomic elements from which every organized phenomenon emerges, whether in cognition, biology, physics, mathematics, society, or the cosmos.

This is a living scientific evidence compendium: an open, continually evolving collection of independent empirical research, formal theory, mathematical proofs, cross-disciplinary analyses, applications, critiques, and proposed falsifications. Every entry is included because it supports, refines, challenges, or attempts to falsify the theory.
Scientific theories are strengthened not only by evidence that confirms their predictions, but also by surviving attempts to falsify them. This compendium brings both together: independent evidence from researchers who were not testing DSRP and proposed counterexamples evaluated against the formal theory.
One counterexample is enough to falsify O-Theory. Until then, the question remains: do the same four structures organize everything from quantum systems to human thought?
Independent convergence is one of the strongest forms of scientific evidence because researchers arrive at the same conclusion while investigating different questions for different reasons.
The number is not the point. Researchers in different fields, studying different questions with different methods, repeatedly arrived at the same structural predictions—almost always without testing DSRP or using its language.

That paper is the peer-reviewed foundation. What you see here is its living, continuously updated version . New studies are checked before they are added, and the collection now holds and keeps growing. The collection is updated continuously, so the citation carries the date you consulted it rather than a study count — the count changes weekly, and putting it in the reference would make the same collection look like a different work to everyone who cites it. To cite a single claim or study, use its own address: every one has a permanent link.
This is the adversarial half of the compendium. Where the evidence track asks what converges on DSRP, this one asks what would end it: a single organized phenomenon whose structure needs a fifth pattern, a ninth element, or a fifth structural dynamic. It holds written up from candidates across territories, and resolutions — the general answers those cases settle against. Every case is published whether it held or failed, including the ones still open.
Cite this rather than the evidence collection when the point is what survived attack. The two are separate works with separate addresses: one asks what converges on the theory, the other asks what would end it, and a reference to the first does not support a claim about the second. Case and resolution numbers change when the record is revised, so cite a case by its own permanent link rather than by number.

Group cognition is usually treated as its own subject with its own machinery. Transactive memory describes who knows what and who knows who knows it. Shared mental model theory measures overlap between individuals. Distributed cognition puts the thinking into the space between people and their tools. Collective intelligence looks for a factor that predicts group performance. Each of these was built for groups, and none of them is an account of individual thought scaled up. The claim here is that no new machinery is needed. A shared model is organized by the same four patterns, eight elements, and four dynamics as a private one. What changes is the unit of analysis — who holds the model — and nothing else. There is no group-specific pattern, and no individual pattern that fails to appear collectively. A claim that reaches across scales has to be shown at each of them: in a pair, in a team, in an organization, in a culture. If the claim holds, it has a practical edge. Everything known about how an individual model goes wrong — a distinction never made, a whole never named, a perspective never taken — applies unchanged to a team's model. The diagnosis transfers. So does the repair.
The same four patterns organize a shared model as organize a personal one, from a pair of people to an entire culture. Read in symbols: for every (∀) holder of a model (α) — one person, two, a team, a company, a culture — the organization of that holder's mental model (O(𝕄_α)) is identical to (≡) the four patterns, eight elements, and four dynamics (DSRP-484). The subscript α is the only thing that changes across scales. It marks who holds the model, and the claim is that it marks the only difference.
Setting aside the fact of being shared, collective organization needs structure that individual cognition does not have — or individual cognition has structure that never appears collectively. Read in symbols: there exists (∃) at least one holder (α) whose model's organization (O(𝕄_α)) is not identical to (≢) the four patterns, eight elements, and four dynamics. Sharing itself does not count. Several agents holding the same model is a relationship among them, or a whole with their models as parts, and both are already in the inventory — the calculus describes the sharing rather than being supplemented by it. What would count is something else: a form of coordination that is not a distinction, a system, a relationship, or a perspective held in common. The failure runs both ways. A team could coordinate by something the four patterns cannot describe, which would mean the inventory is short at collective scale. Or a pattern that operates in one mind could have no collective counterpart, which would mean the traverse only goes one direction.
The two measurements here are separated by three orders of magnitude in group size, and the calculus was coded directly in both — in the exchange between people rather than in anyone's private model. At the small end, fifty pairs in conversation were coded turn by turn, with 94% of adjacency pairs showing the structure operating at partial resolution or better. What was scored is what one person offered and what the other did with it. At the large end, forty-nine complete issues of the Congressional Record were coded with a reliability check, and structural load predicted how far the body's speech diverged from the previous year with document length and period held constant. Several hundred people, treated as one unit, and the structure predicted what the unit did. A third study observes the same thing in a slower medium. Explanatory writing from six disciplines carries the same eight elements — and what a field has settled on how to explain is a product of a community, not of an author. Two entries are derivation rather than measurement, and they do a specific job: they show the collective adaptivity condition to be the same equation as the individual alignment loop, one level up, and supply notation that carries between the two without changing operators. The rest are applications and cases, including one published outside this lab's venues in a top-tier operations journal. They show the account being used on real organizations. They do not test it.
