O-Theory proposes that four irreducible structures — Distinctions, Systems, Relationships and Perspectives (DSRP) — form the universal grammar of organization. Rather than being merely useful ways of thinking, these structures are hypothesized to be the atomic elements from which every organized phenomenon emerges, whether in cognition, biology, physics, mathematics, society, or the cosmos.

This is a living scientific evidence compendium: an open, continually evolving collection of independent empirical research, formal theory, mathematical proofs, cross-disciplinary analyses, applications, critiques, and proposed falsifications. Every entry is included because it supports, refines, challenges, or attempts to falsify the theory.

Scientific theories are strengthened not only by evidence that confirms their predictions, but also by surviving attempts to falsify them. This compendium brings both together: independent evidence from researchers who were not testing DSRP and proposed counterexamples evaluated against the formal theory.

One counterexample is enough to falsify O-Theory. Until then, the question remains: do the same four structures organize everything from quantum systems to human thought?

The number is not the point. Researchers in different fields, studying different questions with different methods, repeatedly arrived at the same structural predictions—almost always without testing DSRP or using its language.

About this record

This is the adversarial half of the compendium. Where the evidence track asks what converges on DSRP, this one asks what would end it: a single organized phenomenon whose structure needs a fifth pattern, a ninth element, or a fifth structural dynamic. It holds written up from candidates across territories, and resolutions — the general answers those cases settle against. Every case is published whether it held or failed, including the ones still open.

Cite this rather than the evidence collection when the point is what survived attack. The two are separate works with separate addresses: one asks what converges on the theory, the other asks what would end it, and a reference to the first does not support a claim about the second. Case and resolution numbers change when the record is revised, so cite a case by its own permanent link rather than by number.

What is context (C)?

The research claim

Context is treated as the thing around the thing. Surrounding circumstances, background, the situation a statement was made in. Everyone agrees it matters and nobody says what it is, which is why it is usually invoked rather than measured — more context is asked for, and what arrives is more information. The word says it. Text and con-text — with-text. It is all text. Some of it is what you are looking at, and some of it is standing in a structural relation to what you are looking at, and which is which depends only on where you put your attention. Look at a different part and the roles swap. There is no separate substance called context; there is information, and there is the structure relating it. So context is not something missing from the outside. It is the organization already available and not yet used — the other that was never named, the whole nobody zoomed out to, the parts nobody zoomed into, the relationships never traced, the points of view never taken. Which makes it calculable rather than mysterious. The calculus says what structure a body of information could have, so it says what is not yet examined. Working through those unexamined places is what supplying context actually is, and the six moves are the procedure for doing it. The consequence is that asking for more context and asking for more information are different requests, and the first is almost never answered by the second.

What would confirm it

Context is other information standing in a structural relation to the information you are looking at. It is all text; what counts as context depends on which part you have made the figure. Read in symbols: context (C) is the organization (O) of information (I), taken at a moment (t₀). The bar means conditioned on — the structure as it stands right now, for this body of information, from where attention currently is. Move attention and the same information yields a different context, because what is figure and what is ground have swapped.

What would refute it

Context is something other than the structure among information — a separate substance, or a property of situations that is not reducible to how information stands in relation to other information. Read in symbols: context (C) is not identical to (≠) the organization of information at a moment. The clearest version of the rival is that context is quantity: that supplying more surrounding material is what supplying context means. If interpretation improves with information volume rather than with structural relation, this account is wrong.

The evidence, and why this status

If understanding is information times organization, then context cannot be background material surrounding a subject. It has to be other information standing in a structural relation to whatever attention is on — which makes context a relation rather than a region, and makes the same material context or focus depending only on where attention sits. Four studies point that way, at four different sizes. The largest is a direct test on standard language benchmarks, coded on features fixed in advance with scores computed arithmetically so no judgement entered at scoring. Interpretation accuracy rose sharply with structure. The amount of information alone predicted nothing, which is what rules out the surrounding-material account. The smallest involves a single square, called square alone, large beside something smaller, and medium between a smaller and a larger. The object is constant throughout. Nothing there requires interpretation, which is why it carries weight. A third shows the same reciprocity in language: priming one word of a pair moved what people produced next, and it worked in both directions the pair was tested. Each word was the context for the other, depending only on which came first. That is the relation claim, demonstrated rather than asserted. A fourth shows how routine it is. Labels tracked neighbours in nearly every case across three conditions. People almost never judge in isolation, because there is no isolation to judge in. Two further entries turn it into something usable: the structure a model could contain is countable, and how little of it people examine unprompted has been measured.
