The Universal & Atomic Elements of Organization
A falsifiable scientific theory proposing that the same irreducible structures organize both thought and reality — from the quantum to the social scale.
O-Theory proposes that four irreducible structures — Distinctions, Systems, Relationships and Perspectives (DSRP) — form the universal grammar of organization. Rather than being merely useful ways of thinking, these structures are hypothesized to be the atomic elements from which every organized phenomenon emerges, whether in cognition, biology, physics, mathematics, society, or the cosmos.

This is a living scientific evidence compendium: an open, continually evolving collection of independent empirical research, formal theory, mathematical proofs, cross-disciplinary analyses, applications, critiques, and proposed falsifications. Every entry is included because it supports, refines, challenges, or attempts to falsify the theory.
Scientific theories are strengthened not only by evidence that confirms their predictions, but also by surviving attempts to falsify them. This compendium brings both together: independent evidence from researchers who were not testing DSRP and proposed counterexamples evaluated against the formal theory.
One counterexample is enough to falsify O-Theory. Until then, the question remains: do the same four structures organize everything from quantum systems to human thought?
Independent convergence is one of the strongest forms of scientific evidence because researchers arrive at the same conclusion while investigating different questions for different reasons.
The number is not the point. Researchers in different fields, studying different questions with different methods, repeatedly arrived at the same structural predictions—almost always without testing DSRP or using its language.

The collection is updated continuously, so the citation carries the date you consulted it rather than a study count — the count changes weekly, and putting it in the reference would make the same collection look like a different work to everyone who cites it. To cite a single claim or study, use its own address: every one has a permanent link.
This is the adversarial half of the compendium. Where the evidence track asks what converges on DSRP, this one asks what would end it: a single organized phenomenon whose structure needs a fifth pattern, a ninth element, or a fifth structural dynamic. It holds written up from candidates across territories, and resolutions — the general answers those cases settle against. Every case is published whether it held or failed, including the ones still open.
Cite this rather than the evidence collection when the point is what survived attack. The two are separate works with separate addresses: one asks what converges on the theory, the other asks what would end it, and a reference to the first does not support a claim about the second. Case and resolution numbers change when the record is revised, so cite a case by its own permanent link rather than by number.

Transfer is the standing embarrassment of education research. Everyone wants it — learn something once, use it everywhere — and the literature has largely concluded it does not happen. Near transfer works. Far transfer, across domains, mostly does not, and after a century of trying, much of the field has stopped expecting it. What transfers is organization. Information does not travel — the facts of chemistry are no use in a marriage. Structure travels, because the same structure is operating in both places. Analogy is the proof of this and everyone already accepts it. A metaphor is a structure held constant while the content is swapped, and analogies are the best transfer tools anyone has found. But an analogy carries one small template at a time, and someone has to have noticed it and packaged it. This has been true for as long as people have thought, and mostly without anyone naming it. Analogies, metaphors, similes, lists, tables, graphs — these are content-free structures that carry between domains, and they were in use for millennia before anyone catalogued them as a class. Forty-four are catalogued now. The point of naming them is not that they are new. It is that a structure you can name is a structure you can choose. The template is what matters, not the example: \_\_ ↔ \_\_ ⇔ \_\_ ↔ \_\_ The blanks take anything. The relations between them are what carries. Teaching the whole inventory rather than one packaged comparison makes every structure portable rather than the few someone thought to point out. This also predicts why far transfer fails in the literature. Teaching is almost entirely content. If nothing structural was learned, there is nothing to carry, and a field measuring the absence of organization would conclude that transfer does not happen.
What transfers between situations is structure, not content. The organization carries; the information does not. Read in symbols: transfer (T) maps the organization used in one domain (O_d₁) onto another domain (O_d₂), while the information in the two domains is different (I_d₁ ≠ I_d₂). The inequality is the point. If the information were the same it would not be transfer, it would be the same problem again. Transfer is precisely the case where nothing about the content carries and something carries anyway.
Organization does not carry across domains. What looks like transfer is really content similarity — the two situations shared enough information that nothing had to travel. Read in symbols: it is not the case (¬) that organization moves from one domain to another, or transfer only occurs where the information in the two domains is similar. This is close to the standing conclusion of the education literature: near transfer works because the content overlaps, and far transfer fails because it does not. If that is right, structure is not what carries.
If a mental model is information times organization, the two terms can move independently — and if they can, then what transfers between domains is a question with a definite answer rather than a mystery. Information is tied to its domain. Organization is not. So transfer has to be the organization carrying while the information stays behind. Three studies point that way, and they sit in a specific order. One establishes the precondition. Explanatory passages from six unrelated disciplines were coded under rules fixed in advance, and the same eight elements turned up across all of them. Structure cannot carry between domains unless the same structure is running in both, so this had to be true before anything else could be. One is the closest thing to a controlled test. People were given awareness of how information is organized, with no content added at all, and then produced measurably more complex models on material they had not seen. Whatever carried was not information, because none was supplied. One is the same result in a classroom, where policy students taught the structural moves applied them to problems the instruction never covered. That is what transfer looks like when it works, on a real task rather than a laboratory one. The rest are the practitioner account — how the structure is taught and how a curriculum is built so that structure rather than content is what students leave with — plus the counting apparatus that makes a template portable rather than an intuition. The measured cases are few and they all point the same way: subtract the content and something still crosses.
