# R15. DSRP Describes Structure, Not Intrinsic Essence

Does DSRP require things to possess intrinsic essence in order to be represented?

## Short answer

DSRP concerns how phenomena are structured, not whether they possess an independent substance. Relational, dependently arising, physical, social, and mathematical phenomena remain representable.

## Complete explanation

DSRP describes irreducible structural relations; it does not require identities, systems, relationships, or perspectives to possess intrinsic, independent, or self-subsisting essence. Its claims are structural rather than essentialist. The Compositional Identity axiom states W ≡ Σpᵢ — the whole is the integrated sum of its parts, not something over and above them. A whole so defined has no essence to lose. The non-dual traditions deny own-being, not structural relation.

## Why the apparent counterexample arises

The apparent difficulty arises because DSRP is read as a theory of intrinsic essence rather than structural organization. The non-dual traditions reject intrinsic, self-subsisting essence, not irreducible structural relations. Denying own-being, denying qualities, and denying positive predication all challenge essentialism, not the structural claims of the calculus.
