## Abstract

Every leader knows the importance of “getting everyone on the same page,” but until now there has been no scientific explanation of what this actually means nor of what to do to accomplish it. Organizations fail or succeed not because of talent or effort, but because of how people organize information. This paper develops a formally grounded model of organizational adaptivity based on the Cognitive Law (𝕄 = I·O) and O-Theory’s account of how mental models structure behavior. We show that Vision, Mission, Capacity, and Learning (VMCL) form a simple-rule architecture for human complex adaptive systems: four attractors (𝒜v, 𝒜m, 𝒜c, 𝒜l) that shape and synchronize the organization’s shared mental models over time. Using a coupling matrix A( t ) and the VMCL generator operator 𝒢, we derive the VMCL Field Equation, which formalizes how individual cognition, sharedness, and interaction dynamics scale into an emergent cultural field ( C ₐ). We then demonstrate that the adaptivity condition (lim t →∞ C ₐ/ℝ = 1) is structurally isomorphic to the individual Love–Reality Loop (lim t →∞ 𝕄/ℝ = 1), showing that collective adaptivity follows the same cognitive law that governs personal model–world alignment. Adaptive culture is therefore not a metaphor but a mathematically definable macro-state arising from organized cognition in a multi-agent system. VMCL provides leaders with a precise structural method for designing this macro-state by shaping the organization and sharedness of mental models—not merely the content of statements or strategies. Together, the four attractors constitute the organizational attractor field that governs all emergent behavior.
