Analyzing 9,809 freshwater fish species from 1976-2099, the study finds gradual warming triggers abrupt 'thermal fragmentation exposure' events, with about 63% of riverine fish projected to face persistent thermal barriers dividing their habitat under high-emissions scenarios by 2100.
