# Creating a brand. Genesis, transformation and diffusion of Qurayyah Painted Ware

## In short

A consistently maintained decorative marker functions as a distinction between this ware and any other, but the marker only does its job because a trading partner is recognizing it — the pattern is meaningless without that observing perspective, i.e. an early brand.

## What they found (results)

Technological and chemical analysis shows 3,200-year-old Qurayyah Painted Ware maintained standardized black-and-red geometric and figural motifs across production sites as it diffused through Bronze Age Arabian exchange networks.
