# Numerous bow shocks in the outer Helix Nebula

## In short

The bow shocks are the direct signature of ejecta fragments (parts) colliding with the interstellar medium (R), and their loss of coherence over ~10,000 years marks the transition of a once-integrated stellar-ejecta whole into diffuse galactic material (S).

## What they found (results)

Using the MOTHRA telescope, researchers found 22 bow shocks in the outer Helix Nebula where fragments of the dying star's ejecta collide with interstellar gas; the shocks' radius of curvature shrinks roughly 100-fold with distance, and debris clumps lose coherence on a ~10,000-year timescale.

These researchers were not testing DSRP. The finding is theirs; the correspondence to DSRP is drawn by this site.
